Flow with Existence and Twist in Brightness

Flow with Existence and Twist in Brightness (2023)

Sarah Macdonald

A photo of two large landscape dark wood frames. The framed images are behind perspex and there is a slight reflection. The images consist of large yellow, white and blue brush trails that flow from one frame to the other. The pieces belong together as a pair as they are 'joined' by the largest yellow brush trail . The background is dark green and there are around 14 delicate grey butterflies that move amongst the brush marks.

The twin artworks, "Flow with Existence" and "Twist in Brightness," were originally one cohesive piece before being divided by frames. Confident, large brushstrokes traverse both pieces, carrying delicate, lace-like butterflies on a graceful dance through time. The intention was to maintain the fluidity and continuity between the separated artworks, highlighting the confident strokes while accentuating the delicate nature of the butterflies, symbolising life's intricate beauty amidst change and continuity.
